Fellow@Nova SBE – Angolan professors assess their stay at Nova SBE
Program confirms the school’s strategy in the connection with Portuguese-speaking Africa.
Nova SBE and the Faculdade de Economia of the Universidade Agostinho Neto (FECUAN) signed the protocol that instituted the Fellow@Nova SBE program in Lisbon in September 2012, during the First NOVAFRICA Conference.
With this agreement, Nova SBE will receive, for the next three years, two professors from the Angolan university in each semester. Pedagogic and scientific development, and access to resources such as databases and libraries are some of the aspects of this program which provides Angolan teachers and researchers the access to international best practices both in teaching and research.
Implemented by NOVAFRICA, the Fellow@Nova SBE program has been underway during the 2012/2013 academic year with the presence at Nova SBE of professors Armanda Fortes and Nkanga Macanda in the first semester and professors Edson Horta and Eduardo Seno in the second semester.
Nova SBE is a truly international school, with students and professors from several nationalities and teaching in English. A fact that was confirmed by Professor Armanda Fortes for whom “the courses and support literature in English, are a distinctive feature of Nova SBE when compared to other Portuguese or Angolan schools”. Moreover the Professor appreciated the logistics that Nova SBE made available and the networking with peers made possible not only in academic activities but also through the active participation in internal events such as the Faculty Lunches.
The professors had the opportunity to participate in the General Management Program of Nova Executive Education. “The program contents and faculty are exceptional, and that is crucial for our academic improvement, not only as teachers but also for a future research activity”, comments Professor Edson Horta.
For Nkanga Macanda the overall result is quite positive, “it was a period of great scientific and academic value and I made the most out of it by updating my knowledge and research skills” refers the professor, who highlights the support of Nova SBE’s faculty.
“I think this is a good initiative as it allows the exchange of experience between the Faculty of both institutions. For FECUAN it will be useful to give its faculty members increased know-how in teaching, research and also in the fulfillment of organizational roles” refers Professor Eduardo Seno. The opinion is shared by his colleagues who are unanimous in considering this passage at Nova SBE as a unique opportunity to update knowledge and develop academically.
