Professor Catia Batista, together with Frédéric Docquier from LISER, sheds light on the complex effects of skilled worker emigration from developing nations:
“The brain drain from developing countries”
While the departure of doctors, engineers, and other professionals affects origin countries, it can be a catalyst: under the right conditions, selective emigration promotes skills acquisition and economic development in the country of origin.
Rather than restricting emigration, the research recommends policies that maximize the development gains of skilled emigration.
