NOVAFRICA Vacancies for Research Assistant (Mexico)

Professor Wayne Sandholtz (Nova SBE) and Professor Francisco Garfias (Duke University) seek qualified applicants for the position of Research Assistant (RA) in the project “Electoral effects of infrastructure in Mexico.”
This project aims to answer a vital question in political economy: when do voters reward governments for providing public goods? It entails the processing and analysis of administrative electoral data from Mexico, as well as data on the location of infrastructure projects from existing randomized interventions.

This position is an excellent option for students considering a PhD or other paths to a research career. The RA will gain experience participating in the process of knowledge creation, with close collaboration and mentoring from Prof. Sandholtz.

Responsibilities include:
• Preparing data for analysis
• Performing preliminary data analysis
• Creating beautiful maps, tables, and figures

Successful candidates will possess:
• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in economics or related fields
• Fluency in Stata and/or R
• Excellent organization and communication skills

Not required but helpful:
• Familiarity with Python and/or GIS software
• Fluency in Spanish
• Experience with data cleaning and preparation

Start date and duration:
Start date is flexible; the sooner the better. The expected duration is 6 to 12 months, with the possibility of renewal. Remote work is a possibility for this position.

Salary and Benefits:
The salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position is anticipated to be part-time, but full-time employment will be considered for excellent candidates with availability.
