NOVAFRICA Vacancy for Research Assistant on Education project (Remote)
Professor Wayne Sandholtz (Nova SBE) seeks qualified applicants for the position of Research Assistant (RA) on the project ”Education and political economy in Brazil”.
The RA will work on two projects involving education in Brazil. One seeks to measure the electoral effects of public reports on municipalities’ educational quality. The other seeks to measure how students’ educational investments respond to the influence of local role models in industries which don’t require educational credentials (star footballers). Both projects entail the processing and analysis of Brazilian administrative data.
This position is an excellent option for students considering a PhD or other paths to a research career. The RA will gain experience participating in the process of knowledge creation, with close collaboration and mentoring from Prof. Sandholtz. RA’s responsibilities include:
- Preparing data for analysis
- Performing preliminary data analysis
- Creating beautiful maps, tables, and figures
Successful candidates will possess:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in economics or related fields
- Fluency in Stata
- Excellent organization and communication skills
Not required but helpful:
- Familiarity with R, Python, and/or GIS software
- Fluency in Portuguese
Start date and duration:
Start date is flexible; the sooner the better. The expected duration is 6 to 12 months, with the possibility of renewal. Remote work is a possibility for this position.
Salary and Benefits:
The salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position is anticipated to be part-time, but full-time employment will be considered for excellent candidates with availability.
