NOVAFRICA 2017 Summer Research Internships

NOVAFRICA is now accepting applications for the 2017 Summer Research Internships.

The internships will be integrated in several ongoing NOVAFRICA field research projects. Most of these projects consist of randomized impact evaluations of interventions. The following projects will be active:

The internships are open to all Nova SBE students, starting between mid-June and July 2017. The internships will last a minimum of 2 months, ideally 3 months. The internships are not paid, although travel, accommodation, health expenses and basic subsistence will be covered by NOVAFRICA.

The intern will be responsible for accompanying fieldwork and survey implementation, and for performing a variety of tasks including survey programming, data checks and backups, staff training and team management in the field.

In some cases, there is the option to extend the internship, whereby the intern will become a Project Coordinator and will receive a basic research scholarship paid according to his/her academic qualifications and experience.

Selection criteria include strong motivation related to development in Africa, and an interest in research in economics. Some personal characteristics, like industriousness and capacity to build productive inter-personal relationships, are also important. Working knowledge of Portuguese is needed, but fluency (although welcome) is not a requirement. Knowledge of Stata or other statistical software is a plus.

If you are interested, please contact NOVAFRICA until 30 April by sending an email including a letter of motivation with contacts that explains why you would like to join the NOVAFRICA’s Research Internship program, letters of recommendation with contacts (if available), and your curriculum vitae with the subject “NOVAFRICA 2017 Summer Research Internship”.

For any additional information or clarification, please contact us via email or consult the blog posts written by former interns herehere and here.
