NOVAFRICA News: Discover Our New Blogpost on Integrating Immigrants Abroad Can Drive Development at Home
NOVAFRICA has released a new blog post about a NOVAFRICA study examining how using a digital app to integrate immigrants benefited both destination and origin countries. Written by Nova SBE Student and NSG member Anais Nkalo.
The experimental study, by NOVAFRICA Scientific Director Catia Batista and NOVAFRICA affiliates Lara Bohnet, Jules Gazeaud, and Julia Seither, focuses on Cape Verdean migrants in the greater area Lisbon and shows that providing easy access to useful information improved job outcomes and the navigation of bureaucratic procedures at destination.
It also finds spillover effects in migrants’ home countries, including higher political participation and more equal gender norms for the closest contacts of the migrants that were offered the digital app, highlighting how migrant integration policies can promote broader development.
